Do you know about the smoke monster? “Er, yeah.”
Can you say anything about it? “Er, no.”
Did they really need to be down in the hatch pushing the button? [Long pause] “Yes.”
Do you know what the numbers mean? “No.”
Will we find out how Jack’s dad is connected to the island? “I do anticipate some resolution in that.”

Internet is Awesome: Reason #2,506,710
I was curious about Budweiser’s Chelada, and the reviews included “real recipes” for the Michelada. Must try it this weekend.
Ingredients:
* 12 oz. Mexican Beer, non-dark, (Corona, Dos XX….) * 6 oz Motts Clamato * 2 dashes of premium worcestershire sauce (Lea & Perrins) * 2 dashes Tabasco brand hot sauce * juice from 2 non-yellow key limes * 1 pinch coarse ground...
Talking Torture w/ Conservatives (via email)
Conservative Friend #1:
I love love love how Coak is trying to compare Scott Brown with Bush/Cheney! (that gets old so fast) And I love love love how Scott Brown said, "I'm not Bush/Cheney, if you want to run against them, that's fine, I'm Scott Brown, I'm from Wrentham and I drive a truck"
Me:
Hey, there are comparable positions.
Scott Brown...
- Supports torture
- For tax cuts
- Against current health-care reform
I really don't care what kind of car he drives.
Conservative Friend #1:
Supports t__re - Good - keeps us safe. If it weeds out info from these enemy combatents. I won't even get into scenarios. Well, I'll give you one.
Say your mom, my mom and [Conservative Friend #2]'s mom were going on an airplane to Italy. Say we had an enemy combatent in custody that knew of information to "destroy"the plane our moms were on. Say he lawyered up weeks before the plane took off and didnt say a word. and then the plane "gets destroyed" en route to Italy. I would be all for T...RE in the weeks leading up to the trip to find out what he new about that plane before our respective mothers' demise. I can't think of any simpler, easier, down to earth scenario/example than that. And I think alot of voters are finally understanding how serious these people are to our national safety.
For tax cuts? -- Good! One example , It will keep large businesses here instead of going overseas.
Me:
I think Brown has a chance of winning. Based on my opinions, I don't think it will benefit the country -- but we each have a vote.
** I think your scenario is compelling, but that's a TV show plot -- I could write an equally compelling story (based on fact) to rebut. If you want, I'll dig up articles with info that there was little useful intelligence gleaned after torturing prisoners.
** Tax cuts were the main economic stimulus of the last 8 years, and I think we need to go in a different direction. I don't make more than $250k, so I don't care about taxes going up.

I think [CF #1]’s story kinda happened around 9 years ago and almost did again on Christmas….
Conservative Friend #1:
It's simple reality, it's real. It happened less then 300 miles from us in Boston.
Alls I'm saying is that I'd like to protect my family and my fellow citizens, even you, by any means possible.
Conservative Friend #1:
Let me put the below scenarios in a "Hindsight is always 20-20" example.
If our moms were on the airplane to Italy, and it got "destroyed", and about a year later you found out that all the government had to do was use "whatever means necessary" to prevent the plane from being "destroyed", wouldn't you have been for that?
I'm not trying to be an a$$, I'm just confused to how people would be against this stuff when it would help prevent the demise of innocent Americans. I just dont understand it.
Me:
> ...when it would help prevent the demise...
That is my main point. Your scenarios are thought-experiments that do not hold up to reality. People say "would" or "could"; I want to hear/read "did".
Of course, I would want to save my mother from harm -- but that doesn't mean I want my govt to systematically use extreme measures on people that have no information to give.
Please provide me with evidence that an attack was prevented because we waterboarded someone or kept them awake for 5 days while sitting in a stress position, etc, etc.
I'm also not trying to be a jerk, but please provide this info to persuade me.
Conservative Friend #1:
I have no examples, its all hypotheticals. I just want whats safe for our country.
But you don't know they have no information to give, that's the whole issue. If they don't, obviously thats terrible what we did to them, but what if one of them had information to save millions? This will be a never ending debate lol.
Well,.. Jack Bauer has done some crazy stuff that worked!
*** I let it drop after that. ***
For the record: Fox News is not "Fair & Balanced"
Exhibit #10,326 that there is no “liberal media bias”:
Fox spent a whole night shilling for the Republican candidate Scott Brown. Which network did the same thing for Martha Coakley?
Did Faux News even invite Coakley to appear…?
